Want to know how to build a global fashion empire online? While the influencer-turned-designer narrative seems like a recent courtship, LA-based designer Anine Bing was way ahead of the curve. Born in Denmark, Bing worked as a model at the age of 15, launched a blog in the early aughts (while living in Sweden), built a loyal (now 759K strong) social media following during the infancy of Instagram, before setting up her own label out of her garage in 2012 (more on that below). Anine’s eponymous fashion brand has since become a multi-million dollar business, with a winning formula of Scandi-cool meets new bohemia. From maintaining a work-life balance - she has two children - Bianca and Benjamin, with husband and business partner Nicolai Bing - goal setting, to meditating to keep her focused, this is her to do list. Anine, over to you.

"Being organised is like therapy for me and when I’m in a tidy space, I am at my best."

As a creative person, I enjoy writing things down. For as long as I can remember, I have always written down my goals each morning, both big and small. This helps you set your mind in the right state to be a happier person. Especially when you go through challenging times, it helps you navigate through it in order to stay centred and focused on the positive.

Being organised is like therapy for me and when I’m in a tidy space, I am at my best. I have a clear headspace and can get more done. My favourite kind of Sunday is going to The Container Store (an alternative, higher-end version of IKEA), then cleaning out my closet and keeping my house organised.

My problem is that I LOVE what I do and can easily get excited and take on too many things. This last year I have learned that I cannot say yes to it all and to choose quality over quantity. That applies in all areas of my life; work, family, and friends. I very much believe that you need to surround yourself with people who give you energy, rather than take your energy. I’m very lucky to love what I do and have an incredible team supporting me, as well as my family, who are very dear to me and have been a crucial part of the journey of ANINE BING.

When we started the company, my husband and I did everything. We were customer service, we packed orders, we designed. I believe it’s important to learn the business yourself before you hire a team as you actually have a better understanding of the realistic expectation from every role. Don’t be afraid to ask them questions! Learn from everybody – because the more you ask, the more you know yourself and that’s really important.
