What were the highlights of last summer? The FIFA Women’s World Cup? Alex performing alongside Dave at Glastonbury? Perhaps! But for us - being all fashionable and whatnot - it was Summer Black.
Despite black being a permanent uniform to many, Summer Black felt like a revelation. And while it may seem as unexpected as sequins in December, so too is Winter White.
White is an excellent idea in its summer iteration if your summers consist solely of gallivanting around on holiday with a Nil By Mouth directive. But if yours are spent supine in your local park covered in burger grease? Maybe not, even if just for issues of practicality.
Wearing white in winter, however, is a suitable level of bolshiness for striding into a new decade. And if it does stain? You won’t care, because you’ll know that while everyone is indeed looking at you, it’s certainly not because of what you enjoyed for lunch.
To avoid looking like you’re in full hazmat, be sure - as always - to mix fabrics, volumes and lengths when constructing your winter white outfit. Apart from that, it’s an easier trend to master than you’d first suspect.
And you know what? Wearing all these pieces will still make perfect sense when it comes to spring - if it ever comes, that is. There hasn’t been a better sartorial investment since, we don’t know, Summer Black?
