The Drop: Loafers

Our loafers edit is window shopping for the soul. Or real shopping for yourself, of course. No one is looking.

Stiff, boyish loafers are growing up this season with sartorially intriguing twists added to the classic shape. From chunky heels to trophy like buckled details, soft leather sling backs to bold printed styles, this classic, well-made, will-go-with-everything day or night shoe is returning with a vengeance, and most certainly gets our seal of approval. Leading the way with practical, yet statement making styles, are Loewe, Louis Vuitton and Prada, all with their grown-up take on these school day reminiscing styles.

STYLING TIPS…

  • Pair ridged straight-leg jeans in a worn-out wash with some flat loafers, add a classic trench with a twist, like the 1/Off upcycled hybrid coat, and wear a fitted fine knit for the perfect daytime uniform. Come evening, simply swap the top half for a silky shirt, tuck it in and leave the top few buttons undone to reveal your layered necklaces. Finish off with some gold hoops and a prim top-handle bag.
  • Style a tailored slim-fit suit, a la Peter Do vibes, with a vintage hodded sweatshirt for a laid-back feel, add detailed heeled loafers for the perfect juxtaposition of workwear and off duty. After dark switch to a fitted ribbed tank and statement earrings for a classic look with the perfect amount of androgynous edge.
  • The easiest way to add some tomboy cool to frothy voluminous dresses, pair some classic styled loafers with sporty school socks and a leather jacket. To add to the loafer’s utilitarian undertones and make the look feel modern go for head-to-toe monotone shades.
