‘Tis the season to dress up - excess on all accounts, be it food, drink or sequins is to be expected. Whether you’re at the ball or just down the pub, gastro or traditional, go to (tinsel) town with texture; clash lamé and lace, pair opulent metallics with sumptuous velvets and say yes to the frills you’d usually say no to. Bows and balloon sleeves? Sure. Shearling fur trim? Why not.
Although the New Year begs you to look forward, we say with dressing look back. Delve into style notes on a bygone era; juxtapose a geometric jacquard print with a soft matt black jacket that together nod to trends of the 60s and 70s. As for asymmetric ruffles that were acceptable in the 80s, we can tell you they are definitely acceptable now. If you want to make a statement - which at Christmas, who doesn’t - then double up on sequins and embellishments, with shoes and stones that shine as bright as Rihanna’s. Just think; too much is never enough, and just add a twinkle more. It may just be the pub but go bold or go home.
