Insta girls travel in packs, and they wear Jacquemus. Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, and Hailey Bieber are just a few fashion muses of the moment who have favoured the French fashion label in recent years, donning its signature clean silhouettes and iconic square handbags. Suffice to say, Simon Porte Jacquemus, founder of the eponymous brand, knows how to make Instagram royalty swoon. And his AW21 collection, released in Paris last night, is no exception.

Indeed, the energy was electric. Shades of tangerine, cornflower blue, vermillion red, and magenta coursed down a French mountain inspired runway (“I wanted the set to be minimal and sharp, recreating an abstract artistic mountain that portrays the inspiration of the collection,” the 31-year-old designer said of the set). There were structured power suits (with cleavage!), slouchy trousers and flesh-flashing bralets. Depop's favourite iteration of the crop-top – the fuzzy, laced-together kind – also got the Jacquemus nod and will no doubt to sell out in seconds.

The collection also marked a continuation in luxury athleisure wear, a prominent trend of the last few seasons. This shift to designer comfort, likely brought on by the pandemic, was interpreted by Jacquemus with aplomb. The bulk of looks were made up of sensual outdoor clothing: technical sack dresses, and sportily tailored trousers, fit for skiing, hiking, or, perhaps more realistically, glamping.

On his official Instagram page, Jacquemus shared: “I wanted to focus on the clothes, the silhouettes, the colours, the fabrics, the details and the energy of the models. Welcome back!”

Indeed, despite belonging to the colder months of the fashion season, “La Montagne”, seems more like an ode to the ongoing hot girl summer. The return of fashion, the return of the runway, and the return of the outdoors. Models included Adut Akech, Kendall, Bella and Jonas Glöer, a statement in itself that went far to show that mixing menswear and womenswear is the way forward.
