The 24-year-old Parisian designer is a graduate from Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne (one of the best French fashion schools - Yves Saint Laurent, Karl Lagerfeld, André Courrèges and Valentino Garavani are among its alumna). Just one year after graduating, Charles de Vilmorin launched his very first collection on Instagram (a colourful ode to love and tolerance, that he created in his apartment during the first lockdown in spring), before being invited to debut his creations at Paris Haute Couture fashion week in January.

Charles is more a multi-disciplinary artist than a pure fashion designer. His Instagram is saturated with colourful and vibrant art works (in fact, he often hand paints his own garments). Dubbed Le Petit Prince de la Mode (translated as “the little prince of fashion”) by French press, Charles has a poetic, fantasy-like, vision of fashion. His bright and playful designs are also packed with nuances of nostalgia. Citing influences from artists such as sculptor-painter Niki de Saint Phalle to fashion designers Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Lacroix, Alexander McQueen and John Galliano.
After six years at the helm of Rochas, Alessandro Dell'Acqua showcased his last collection for the brand in February last year. Now, a year on, the fashion guard are excited to see what a haute couture newcomer at an iconic French fashion house will bring. “Rochas is a brand that holds a special place in my heart, due to both deep personal family ties and the label's heritage which I find so rich and inspiring”, said in the official statement Charles de Vilmorin, whose great-aunt was a close friend of Hélène Rochas (the widow of the brand’s founder Marcel Rochas helped the French house gain an international following). “I can't wait to bring my personal touch and reinterpret the codes of this beautiful Maison". De Vilmorin plans to continue working for his own namesake label, developing its artisanal side and artful experiments in genderless couture.
"Audacity, elegance, timelessness and originality are the foundation of the Rochas legacy,” says Philippe Benacin, President of Rochas’ parent company Société Interparfums. “These are also values that define the work of Charles de Vilmorin, creating perfect synergy between our two worlds. Charles’ youth, talent and touch of wildness will give Rochas new life for years to come.”
