Highlights include three Harry Styles approved feather boas

Winning Best Pop Vocal Album for Future Nostalgia, Dua Lipa was dressed to thrill. In a sheer crystal Versace dress with thigh high splits, midriff cutouts and a central butterfly motif – an ultra retro reference, nodding to the likes of Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera. "There was a lot of symbolism this year for me for butterflies," said Lipa to Giuliana Rancic on the carpet. Later for her stage performance, the singer changed into a voluminous fuchsia duchesse satin cape that peeled off to reveal a pink crystal-encrusted ensemble – all custom-made Versace, natch.

Winning his first golden gramophone for Best Pop Solo Performance, Styles also stole the sartorial show. He arrived in a tweed, tartan and cropped blazer, worn over a V-neck knit, and chocolate-brown flared pants and cream leather boots, a look that was finished by an over the shoulder lavender-colour Gucci faux fur boa. He then performed in a black leather suit with heeled boots. The fact that he wore no shirt underneath was more than made up for by a pistachio coloured – you guessed it – feather boa. And later at the press junket he wore another, though this time with an orange jacket. Consider this the next stage in his abundantly camp and fabulous fashion revolution.

In winning four trophies, Queen B made history last night, becoming the most celebrated female artists in the Grammys history, scooping a total of 28 awards. And she did so in a custom off-the-shoulder black leather Schiaparelli dress with matching gloves with trompe l’oeil gold fingernails, and a pair of drop earrings in gilded brass and enamel. Her nine-year-old daughter Blue Ivy Carter became the second-youngest ever Grammy winner, scooping Best Music Video for her mother's hit track "Brown Skin Girl". Like mother like daughter.

The Haim sisterhood harked back to their childhood, where their mother used to dress them in matching ensembles. Appearing on the red carpet in matching one-off Prada designs from the first collection by Raf Simons and Miuccia Prada, Este wore her dress over a cut-out turtleneck, Danielle paired her A-line dress with trousers, and Alana opted for an ensemble with a nylon raincoat, that was clutched together on her chest (a signature gesture from Miuccia).

Last year Eilish was the first start to appear at the Grammys in a couture mask (embellished with crystals, no less). This year she walked the red carpet in a dusty pink tattoo-covered PJ ensemble, complete with a bucket hat, matching mask and manicure. The singer added two Grammys to her collection – Best Song Written for Visual Media for No Time to Die and Record of The Year for Everything I Wanted – pipping Dua Lipa, Doja Cat and DaBaby to the post. Surprised by her win, Eilish dedicated her award to her fellow nominee Megan Thee Stallion, saying: “You deserve this. You deserve everything in the world. Genuinely, this goes to her”.

“I feel so honoured to be able to wear this piece tonight,” Cyrus, who was nominated for Best New Artist, told Giuliana Rancic. A voluminous silk crepe Schiaparelli couture gown that extended past her head, it sent social media into a tailspin, with users likening it to everything from toilet roll and a duvet, to a fitted sheet. And yes, we can, um, kinda see it.

Twenty-six-year-old Megan Thee Stallion delivered a red carpet moment in a tangerine Dolce & Gabbana gown, with an XXL bow and sparkling Chopard diamond jewels, taking awards home for Best New Artist, Best Rap Performance (for the remix of Savage featuring Beyoncé) and Best Rap Song.

After four years away, Taylor Swift finally made her return to the Grammys, dressed in an impeccably chic floral-adorned Oscar de la Renta mini dress and pink Christian Louboutin sandals. The singer elevated her look with a coordinating floral mask, but most importantly made history, becoming the first woman to win album of the year three times.
