Raf Simons is the gift that just keeps on giving. The Belgian designer has announced that, after 25 years in business, he'll be launching a womenswear line under his eponymous brand, in time to present both men’s and women’s collections on 23 October. The format and location of the presentation are yet to be announced, but we're already excited to see the result.
Simons' menswear designs have long been popular among women, with some retailers (like MATCHESFASHION) stocking small sizes for female clients. Credited as one of the most talented designers of his generation (thanks to his austere silhouettes and references to youth movements, electronic music and subculture), he's worked for many established brands on womenswear before.
Simons was appointed creative director at Jil Sander in 2005, leaving the position in 2012 to head up Dior’s women’s ready-to-wear and couture lines (you've probably seen the story behind his first Dior collection in one of the most iconic fashion documentaries, Dior and I). When he moved on to Calvin Klein, Simons was responsible for both the women’s and men’s collections.
This February, he made headlines when he was appointed the co-creative director of Prada, where he is the first designer to work alongside the revered Miuccia. Their first highly anticipated collection will be revealed on 24 September 24, during Milan Fashion week.
