Once upon a time Halloween dressing followed a pretty simple formula: lots of black, lots of makeup and maybe some form of cape. This year, it’s all change, with next-level outfits inspired by iconic pop culture moments. From Jessica Biel’s LOL ode to her husband’s 90s wardrobe to transforming into famous power couples, here’s BURO.’s top sartorial charts for Halloween. It’s all about reviving ghosts of wardrobes past...
Have you ever been in a relationship where you and boyfriend basically morph into one another? It starts off innocently – maybe a borrowed t-shirt here and there – and then low and behold #twinning is now your weekend wardrobe default. Just google ‘Brad Pitt dressing like his ex-girlfriends.’ Jessica Biel took this to extremes, looking through her husband’s old photo albums and modelling a replica of an NSYNC outfit in a metallic jumpsuit with sunglasses and a curly-haired wig. Styled with the accessory du jour: Justin Timberlake as her microphone.
Want to channel your inner supermodel? Singer Normani knocked it out of the park, taking inspiration from the HRH of the catwalk, Naomi Campbell. Her throwback look makes our nostalgic hearts sing; recreating an iconic 1991 image of Campbell in an Azzedine Alaïa leopard-print body suit and beret. The remake gets the Miss Campbell seal of approval too – reposting the “gorgeous” image on her own Twitter feed – sweet.
The one that truly deserves a double take on Instagram. Ciara and husband Russell Wilson dressed as the ultimate pop culture power couple: Beyoncé and Jay-Z. They wore replicas of the musicians’ pink and green suits in their ‘Apeshit’ music video. Taking the costume dress code very seriously, Ciara wore the exact Peter Pilotto style that Bey sported in the video. Bravo.
How does one get the Holly Golightly look? Will an LBD and black sunglasses suffice? For Kate Beckinsale, no detail was spared in her recreation of Audrey Hepburn’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s character. Although not a total carbon copy – instead of a croissant at Tiffany’s she’s shopping for sweets in a corner shop with Elton John.
OG squad goals, before this was a hashtag, and our favourite film to come out of the early noughties? Bring It On, obvs. Gabrielle Union - who played the character of rival cheerleader Isis in the classic 2000 film - paid homage to her on-screen role in a red, green and yellow Clovers outfit. *Books cheerleader practice*
When all else fails? Extreme beauty is your best friend. See Halsey’s glam-goth makeup, a la Marilyn Manson, during his infamous Mechanical Animals-era in the late 90s. Get your hands on a face painting set and some (temporary) red hair spray and you’re good to go. More is more is more.
Our favourite sibling trio Haim got into the Halloween spirit… by dressing up as another famous sibling trio. Nope not the Jonas brothers - Hanson. The sisters donned blonde wigs and lip-synced to the catchiest song of all time, their 90s smash hit (and our now not-so-guilty pleasure), MmmBop.
Part two of Halsey’s Halloween fiesta is a very different vibe. Her and new BF Evan Peters rocked up as 60s power duo Sonny Bono and Cher at American Horror Story's 100th episode party. Historically accurate.
Superhuman style inspo incoming: Ashley Graham’s ode to Jessica Rabbit; complete with a red wig, matching strapless latex dress and purple gloves. Obsessed.
Kylie Jenner’s daughter, Stormi Webster, out dressed her own mum - in a mini-me version Jenner’s Met Gala look.
