'Tablescape' didn't feature on the OED’s Words of the Year list. I was so sure it would! Not least because there were 16 slots to be filled (2020 can’t be distilled into a single word, apparently). It has all the hallmarks of a Word of the Year. It was a word before, but not really in common parlance, and it enjoyed a mighty increase in popularity in the year 2020. C’mon OED, seriously? We're all doing it, right? On Instagram there are 1.2 million posts under the hashtag. And they're not necessarily over the top displays of excess. No, just a bit of effort in the form of nice crockery and a bit of consideration for your table’s composition as a whole. If the concept of tablescaping has eluded you altogether, please do read our bumper guide before having a browse of the shopping below. Then go ahead and enrich your crockery collection, and carry on using small things to make a big difference to your meal and your mood. And if you live or eat solo, try trayscaping, because it’s not just for entertaining or the enjoyment of others.
Whether it's a dish designed especially for oysters from Diptyque (yes, they do homeware as well as beautiful candles), or dinner plates with shells on, dress your table as attentively as you do your salad, and bon appétit.
