Birds of Prey - the Harley Quinn spin-off to Suicide Squad -has revealed its all-female soundtrack. As well as songs from Doja Cat, Halsey and Summer Walker, Megan Thee Stallion and Normani have collaborated to release Diamonds, which is so far the only song to be released.
The Diamonds video dropped just yesterday, and sees both women in Harley Quinn-inspired outfits. Despite the two musicians having two distinct styles - Normani serving up pop perfection and Stallion making waves for her fast-paced, quick-witted rap - the pair have joined forces to reimagine Marilyn Monroe’s Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend (from the classic 1949 musical comedy Gentlemen Prefer Blondes).
The standalone film, which producers have confirmed is not a sequel to Suicide Squad, is set to have some feminist overtones. Officially titled Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of Harley Quinn (quick, gasp for air), the movie is directed by Cathy Yan, with a script from London-born screenwriter Christina Hodson. Together they deliver a plot centred around Margot Robbie’s enigmatic Harley Quinn who, post break-up from the Joker, joins a superhero girl-gang to save a young child from an evil warlord.
The film and soundtrack will be released February 7th. But, if like us you can't wait until then, just watch the Diamonds video on repeat...
