Entitled Stardust, the biopic follows early years of David Bowie’s stellar career. The film is set in 1971, when the iconic singer is just a 24-years-old young talent, who goes on his first road trip to the States to promote his record, “The Man Who Sold the World’. Who was he before he became the music icon? How did he dress before he became the main inspiration for so many designers? (As the film suggests, mostly, in women’s clothes - think, bohemian shirts, kimonos, colourful fedoras, and Mary Jane shoes). And most importantly, why and how did he create his stage persona and alternate go, Ziggy Stardust? The biopic also tells the story of Bowie’s friendship with his publicist Ron Oberman, who, according to the first trailer, was “the only person at Mercury Records, who didn't hate his music”.
The singer-turned-actor Johnny Flynn plays David Bowie, you might have seen him in Emma and Beast. He is joined by stand-up comedian and writer Marc Maron, who plays Bowie’s legendary Mercury Records publicist Ron Oberman. While Jena Malone from the Hunger Games, incarnates Angie Bowie, American supermodel, actress and journalist, who was Bowie’s first wife.
The project did not receive approval from Bowie’s family, as the singer himself did not want to have any movies about his life. That’s why there is no music by the iconic star, and Bowie’s die hard fans are now massively trying to boycott the film using the hashtag #BoycottStardust on social media.
..David Bowie! But not only, if you like success stories, this film is definitely a must-see. It comes from Gabriel Rage, the mastermind behind Death of a President, a fictional political documentary about the assocination of George W. Bush.
The biopic will premiere in theatres and will be released digitally on November 25. You can watch the official trailer here
