The 10-episode series is based on a real blockbuster story from New York Magazine by Jessika Pressler: “How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People”. It's about a 28-year-old fake heiress, who fooled everyone into thinking she was a multimillionaire. She presented herself as a German, went by the name of Anna Delvey, and for four years, lived for four years in luxurious hotels in Manhattan, dined in Michelin-starred restaurants, went to the glitziest parties while dressed in designer clothes. She tricked her New York socialite friends into paying for everything, coming up with cute excuses about a lost wallet or a declined credit card, and promising to pay them back one day. Delvey forged bank statements, and even claimed to be setting up an art foundation cum members club for which she needed hefty backing. The series follows a journalist who's investigating Anna's past, while she awaits trial. “Anna and the reporter form a dark, funny love-hate bond as our reporter fights the clock to answer the biggest question in NYC: who is Anna Delvey?” Netflix teases.
Emmy Award-winner Julia Garner (from Ozark) will play the role of Anna, while Anna Chlumsky (from Veep) takes on the role of Vivian, an ambitious journalist determined to reporting every inch of the scandalous story, who along the way, becomes curiously attached to Delvey. They are joined by Laverne Cox, who play a trainer and life coach to the stars, Katie Lowes, who plays Anna’s BFF Rachel, and Alix Floy, who takes on the role of an aspiring filmmaker working as the concierge - all of them fell under Sorokin’s charm.
The drama series has been written and produced by Shona Rhimes, famous for Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal. Meanwhile Devil Wears Prada director David Frankel has directed two episodes. Expect lots of gripping gossip, ostentation, lies and fancy clothes.
The release date is yet to be announced but we'll keep you posted.
