Stop what you’re doing - Britney Spears’ first solo art show is happening (in the middle of nowhere, France)
It’s good to have hobbies, isn’t it? Some do pottery, others take up crochet... Britney Spears likes to paint. On Saturday, the fruits of her art work will be on display in the small village of Figeac in the South of France. According to Galerie Sympa, which announced the exhibition on its Instagram, the singer’s first solo art show will take place on Saturday (19th January).
Britney’s art has garnered somewhat of a cult following on Instagram since she posted a video of her (wait for it) painting primary school style flowers on her ivy-covered balcony, wearing a bralette and short shorts, whilst listening to Mozart. The video was posted along with the caption “Sometimes you just gotta play!!!!!! ???????????????????.” Whether she’s serious in her pursuit to paint, or just very ironic we’re unsure, but either way, we’re booking a ticket to Figeac.
The exhibition, entitled Sometimes you just gotta play!!!!! as a nod to the video, will feature the painting, which sold in 2017 for $10,000. It's unknown whether any other work by the artist will also be on display, or in fact, if the show is in collaboration with the artist herself. The painting was originally donated by Spears in 2017 to an auction at the Venetian hotel for Vegas Cares, a charity auction in which all proceeds went towards an art piece to memorialise the victims of the Las Vegas massacre. The buyer was English journalist Robin Leach, who hosted a TV show called Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous between 1984-95.
According to the gallery's website the exhibition will be open from 6-9pm on Saturday evening, or “Till the world ends”, which is of course, a reference to the singer’s hit single of the same name.
