When it comes to waterproof eyeliner, there is often a difficult decision to be made between the convenience of a pencil and the smooth texture of a gel. Darkside by Anastasia Beverly Hills allows you to have both and intensely pigmented colour. It also has something that we wish we had: a retractable tip to prevent breakage. But this is giving us all the strength we need for now.

HOURGLASS VOYEUR WATERPROOF LIQUID LINER, £33 AT CULT BEAUTY

While we’re more prone to being exhibitionists, Voyeur by Hourglass is not a waterproof eyeliner that we will ever reject. It provides what we prize above all: control, which, with regards to applying eyeliner (and perhaps life itself, but that’s a conversation for therapy), is vital. Your eyelids won’t be tugged nor parts of the line skipped with this in your arsenal.
