Xander wakes up around 4.50am. There are no curtains in the office block he calls home. Post-uni (Bristol) and gap year (South America’s Andean trail), he decamped from the family home (Epsom) to a Guardian Live-In property where he pays a pittance to sleep in quasi-corporate squalor. His physical surroundings however, are irrelevant, because he can remove himself mentally by journeying to the Upper World (the top layer of the shamanic universe). Knowing better than to follow in his hedge-fund father's footsteps, his workshops are free. He absolutely, categorically will not use spirituality to participate in capitalism. His frien– sorry, students are encouraged to take unconscious journeys into the spirit world also, while clutching Tibetan lotus seed beads (procured from a service station near Iguazu Falls), before being asked to part with £28 for a hawthorn-based herbal remedy on their way out.
