Avid snow seekers, the list of luxe lodges to stay has just grown, with two more boutique luxury hotels opening this season — just in time for the winter. Both El Lodge Ski and Spa in Sierra Nevada, Granada and Hotel Pashmina Le Refuge in Val Thorens, France are set to welcome visitors come this December. Here we take a peek inside the palatial pads...
While the The El Lodge Ski and Spa, isn't new — it's actually re-opening after a fire gutted the structure in January 2014 — final preparations are being made to breathe new life into the once grand hotel. And as you'd come to expect from a small luxury hotel, there's spacious terraces with outdoor Jacuzzis, prêt-a-porter skiing services and, believe it or not, the only open-air swimming pool in Sierra Nevada.
Getting to the slopes is easy from El Lodge with one chairlift a mere 50m from the front door. Speaking of slopes there's 46 pistes and six off-piste runs, which wind around the hotel. It's also a hot spot for Spanish celebrities, think dancer Estella Morente and singer Ana Torroja.
If Spain doesn't tickle your fancy then head on up to France, where Hotel Pashmina awaits you in Val Thorens, Europe's highest ski resort. Here they don't just offer you individual rooms or suites, they even have two three-storey apartments, complete with private entrance, three bedrooms, fully equipped kitchen and get this, your very own private Turkish bath. Other facilities that the hotel provides include beauty treatments by L'Occitane and a restaurant fronted by award-winning chef Romuald Fassenet. While nearby Meribel seems to be more popular with the stars, at Hotel Pashmina, they offer you the real thing with the IglooPod room located on the hotel's roof. For these reasons alone, the hotel's anticipated opening is already creating a buzz.
You can now make bookings for both hotels through the Small Luxury Hotels of the World website www.slh.com.
