Facebook has reached an incredible milestone, clocking one billion users in just one single day, according to its founder Mark Zuckerberg.
On Monday, the social media platform saw "1 in 7 people on Earth used Facebook to connect with their friends and family", Zuckerberg posted in a statement.
Facebook has almost 1.5 billion users who log in over the period of a month, but Monday's milestone was the most the site has clocked in one single day. The social media platform, which was founded by Zuckerberg in 2004 when he was still a student at Harvard, gained its billionth user in October last year.
"This was the first time we reached this milestone, and it's just the beginning of connecting the whole world," Zuckerberg wrote in a Facebook post.
In July, Facebook claimed that over half of the world's online users visited the site at least once a month. Join Buro 24/7 Middle East on Facebook here.
