Dubai is aiming to break its own records with the launch of the new Meydan One – a 3,671,000-square-metre leisure, residential and hospitality destination, set to open the first phase in time for Expo 2020. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, officially launchd the project this week.

The plans include a record breaking indoor ski-slope that will be three times longer than Ski Dubai, as well as the world's tallest residential tower – at 711 metres-tall named – Dubai One tower, and a new and even bigger display of dancing fountains. 

The vast Meydan One Mall will host more than 300 restaurants and cafes, as well as flagship retailers, luxury stand-alone outlets and night-spots. During the cooler months, the mall will be open air, and when the summer heat begins to return the 150 metre x 80 metre retractable roof to fold in to help with climate control. 

Joining the ski slope is a host of other sporting facilities including an indoor sports complex, a jogging track and cycling trail.
