It's the end of the year and the social gathering invites are pilling up — all of which promise copious amounts of catering (read: unhealthy food and drink). This contributes nothing towards weight loss goals, which have been delligently set to achieve before the end of the year.
The majority of us will give in, with sights (and good intentions) set to start again in the New Year. However, this doesn't need to be the case. There are a number of ways you can stay motivated, with a beeline focus that ensures New Year's Eve remains a focal point, not a fizzled out flop.
Just remember it's never too late to start. So begin with by setting goals: that 10km run, losing 2kg... Whatever it is, share it with as many friends and family members as you can. That way they'll support you with your goal, not to mention they'll be more reluctant to offer you bad food, they'll also accept your decision when you say: "No thank you, I need to train tomorrow".
Another way to stay motivated is to book an exercise appointment. If that's a group fitness exercise class, a personal training session or just adding a workout into your diary, people are more likely to stick to a plan if they've made an appointment. Set it into your diary 24 hours in advance with a follow-up reminder set.
The other important aspect of staying motivated is doing an activity that you enjoy. If you don't enjoy running on the treadmill, then don't do it! Just because you feel you need to do an exercise or you believe that it's the right thing to do to achieve your goal, there needs to be impetus to continue on your journey of health and wellbeing. Just remember to stay focused, and stay fit!
