DIFC in Dubai is home to notable gastronomic fare with French flavours at La Petit Maison, zesty Asian tastes at Zuma and an impressive international culinary collection at Dusty's, our restaurant of choice this week.
Stepping inside the dimly-lit designed restaurant, it's the décor, designed by Serendipity, that captures the scene offering a young, on-trend, urban vibe. Interjecting the space are a mix of low and high and seating surrounding aged wooden tables, which are inscribed with little notes like 'Fragile' and 'Keep Dry'. All of these touches combine to add drama to the artworks splashed across the many walls.
Then to the menu... Food is a smorgasbord of the best dishes from every region around the world, perfect for the international DIFC crowd and by extension, Dubai. The menu runs the gamut from Japan to Mexico and France and everywhere else in between. The extensive appetisers' list (19 items in total) is divided into small bites and hot and cold starters. Our top recommendations are the Buratta with roasted peppers and chopped basil as well as the Beef Carcapaccio with mustard dressing, capers and the olive crostini to provide the crunch.
The mains are a simpler affair and you have your standard steaks and chops, pastas and a good selection of salads. The crispy duck, tastes delicious when eaten with the combination of mixed greens and pomegranate dressing. Our recommendation for main though has to be the Black Cod with the accompanying green chilli and mango salsa, which adds freshness and a bit of heat. As for sides, you can't go wrong ordering the crispy truffle fries with parmesan. Then there's the Foie-gras, a relatively new item on the menu.
For desserts, the choice is tempting but the trio of brulee (mango, coconut and coffee) as well as the Dusty's recommended Affogato are both highly recommended.
With a discerning international clientele, Dusty's have taken an unconventional route, diverting from the specialised cuisines of its DIFC siblings and rather offer something for everyone. If the crowds and the expansion are any indication — Dusty's is opening an outdoor area, possibly the biggest terrace of its kind in DIFC, as well as a deli bar for the daytime crowd and a drinks counter for night revellers — then it seems Dusty's have got the recipe for success right.
Dusty's is located on the first floor of Al Fattan Currency House, DIFC. For reservations, contact +971 4 354 5435 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
