Tesla CEO Elon Musk has revealed in a company shareholders official letter that the business is preparing to launch its first ever SUV model – the Tesla Model X.

According to Musk, the Californian company is “building more validation vehicles, executing final engineering and testing work, enabling our new manufacturing equipment and finalising arrangements with our suppliers.”

The Tesla Model X will feature gullwing doors and run on a dual-motor all-wheel drive system, similar to its sister model – the Model S. The power and acceleration details are yet to be revealed.

Musk also took the opportunity to share happy news with his shareholders, revealing that Q2 of 2015 saw Tesla produce 12,807 cars, which exceeds the target of 12,500 and enjoyed a 15% sequential increase in production – which is a 46% increase from 2014.
