As hemlines head ever lower and a new wave of feminism takes root, Girl Power has hit high fashion with Suffragette Chic leading the charge. Prada’s SS16 collection was bursting at the seams with midi skirts in sensible stripes in the kind of boxy shapes the feminist icons of yester year would have approved. Valentino too channelled the trend. But buttoned up doesn’t have to mean boring, as stylist Bea Potter explains. “Midi and Maxi are the lengths of the moment but there are a whole host of shapes to try, from floaty seventies peasant dresses to wiggle-worthy pencil skirts,” says Potter.

“Geek Chic is also huge at the moment as designers take heed of a new generation of feminists keen to emulate the kind of stylish yet androgynous look the likes of Alexa Chung and Chloe Sevigny have been rocking for years. Accessorise with flats and statement specs and you’re sorted.”
