Acclaimed shoe designer, and the man responsible to keeping the red carpet and front row crowd so well-heeled – Manolo Blahnik – is to be honoured the day before New York Fashion Week (NYFW) kicks off, with the 2015 Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion on September 9.

The Couture Council of The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology will present the award to Blahnik at a lunch event held at New York's Lincoln Centre's David H. Koch Theatre.

Blahnik has described the honour as "one of the greatest accolades of my life," adding: "I very much admire the Couture Council's invaluable support of The Museum at FIT. It is imperative that we cultivate the culture of fashion and continue educating about design and artisanship. The museum does just that and in very clever and innovative ways."

After 40-years of designing shoes exclusively, Blahnik has recently unveiled a collection of intricate clutch bags, inspired by his bejewelled shoes. Take a look at the collection here.
