Barely a week after Alexander Wang bade farewell, Balenciaga is ready to embark on a new direction. The captain of the ship this time will be Demna Gvasalia, the man behind the breakout fashion success that is Vetements. Before launching the brand, Gvasali had worked at Margiela and Louis Vuitton.
Known for his unconventional styles coupled with innovative approaches to design, Gvasalia seemed the perfect fit. "I was really amazed by his ability to develop an approach to the brand that was really new and that was really his own...what should be the attitude, what should be the silhouette, what should be the volumes," said Balenciaga's Chief Executive Officer and President Isabelle Guichot.
Gvasalia will now wear two artistic hats as he's continuing to be the creative force behind Vetements. "I am extremely honoured and excited to be given the opportunity to bring my creative vision to Balenciaga, a house with such an exceptional history of pushing the boundaries of modernity in fashion."
His first show for Balenciaga will be in March 2016 during Paris Fashion Week.
