Ahead of the Abu Dhabi Art opening, two large-scale installations, Hassan Sharif's 'Copper' and Farhad Moshiri's 'Shukran', have been unveiled at the main lobby of Manarat Al Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi.

'Shukran' is a piece where numerous knives with a variety of coloured handles, shapes and sizes, spell out the Arabic word for 'Thank You'. The sharp, threatening knife associated with violence is here subverted with an ironic twist referencing both unspoken subtexts and the power of language.

As part of Abu Dhabi Art's 'Beyond' programme — the section for large-scale installations, sculptures and site specific commissions by selected artists — the two installations are set to engage with people at public spaces and help bring the art of experience to life. Curated by Fabrice Bousteau, the theme for this year's art installation project is Bliss.
